Young Person's Counselling Process at Ku Sikia

When young people are progressing satisfactorily along their transition from childhood through adolescence to adulthood they generally feel good about life and are able to cope. If a problem does arise then the natural development journey is blocked. For most they are able to draw upon their own coping strategies to overcome a problem/ experience. Alternatively they may be able to adapt to cope with the help of parents, friends or others.

However, if the young person is unable to cope or resolve the block then inappropriate behaviour may occur in response to the stress or pain. This may include withdrawal, aggression, depression, drug misuse, or thoughts of suicide. Counselling is an option that can be very helpful in dealing with the block.
